The company deployed 143 MW of energy storage projects in its fourth quarter, with the company’s 100-MW energy storage project in South Australia expected to be recorded in the first quarter of this fiscal year. Tesla’s investment letter indicated the South Australia project, currently the biggest battery in the world, is already generating “substantial benefit” during the country’s summer months and has driven an increase in the company’s Powerpack energy storage system. Tesla deployed 87 MW of solar generation in the fourth quarter, down 20 percent from the previous quarter. Tesla, which purchased SolarCity in 2016, said the decline was due to its closure of certain sales channels and focus on projects with better margins. Additionally, solar deployments were affected by a short supply of Powerwall, Tesla’s home energy storage solution, for customers who wanted solar and energy storage in their homes. The company expects solar growth to resume next year.
